The Pacific Coast

John and I drive through picturesque coastal towns with names like Ocean Shores, Ocean Side, Ocean View, white and gray just like the Pacific. A few rugged locals walk empty sidewalks and beaches with their heads down and that faraway look one acquires living close to an untamed wilderness atop lofty cliffs, just out of ocean’s reach, in view of sea stacks, above sea lion caves, wind swept and wet, amid Redwood groves hiding in a crawling creeping mist, where fern choked ravines, sticky yellow banana slugs, salamanders, fairytale fungus, oversized clovers, trees in mossy pajamas, and herds of elk exist.
