A Story that Influenced Me

The Journey of Natty Gann (1985)

If you’re raising a lil’ adventurer get them this movie! Growing up I wanted to be like Natty Gann. She is an independent and courageous girl who embarks on a cross-country journey (with a wolf she saves from a dog fighting ring!) to find her father. She is one of the few fictional female characters I can think of, from my childhood, who takes on this level of badass-ery.

What story from your childhood influenced your passion for adventure?

      1. Rad! My six year old daughter has all of the leadership skills of Huck Finn with a few trips to the office to prove it. I’ll make sure she sees The Journey of Natty Gann. Thanks for the tip. 💪🏽👍🏽

  1. From the states, probably Stand By Me! 🙂

I can think of lots of Afrikaans books though! “Wit Oemfaan” is the story of an Afrikaner boy who is seperated from his family and then adopted into a Zulu tribe. Kind of like Dances With Wolves but with Boers and Zulus instead. Never been translated to English though.
