Day 18 May 12
Buckhorn CG to Northfork Ranger Station
High Tech and I fist bumped about doing 36 miles today but I secretly knew we’d push on. This is how we hike, like macho idiots.
The trail is ugly and easy today so I don’t feel bad blowing right through it. The Station Fire did a number on this section five years ago.
The last five miles tests our patience: the trail is overgrown with prickly brush, the tread is battered sand with ruts, and poodle dog bush threatens to bite you from dark corners. I hear High Tech curse as he crashes through the jungle.
My body holds up really well, I feel like I could go 10 more. But instead I sandwich between High Tech and Dolphin the Space Traveler for a good night’s giggle.
Tomorrow: The Saufley’s!
